Emily Elizabeth Dickinson

Escape

I NEVER hear the word "escape"
Without a quicker blood,
A sudden expectation,
A flying attitude.

I never hear of prisons broad
by soldiers battered down,
But I tug childish at my bars--
Only to fail again!
